Meet Dr.
Sina Najafi
Dr. Najafi is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Palliative Care. He attended The University of Texas at Dallas where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He completed his medical degree at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, he continued to pursue a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. During this time, he learned how to ease patients’ symptoms (e.g., pain, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, and insomnia) and decrease patients’ suffering. He then returned to Texas where he met his lovely wife Tania and is currently practicing Palliative Care at Baylor Scott & White Health.
While caring for patients who suffer from chronic diseases, Dr. Najafi realized that traditional medical practices would not be sufficient for his patients and started practicing Integrative Medicine, combining modern medicine with complementary health services. He has been able to recommend medical marijuana to his patients since September 2021, after Texas expanded the Compassionate Use Program. Dr. Najafi is excited to recommend legal forms of cannabinoids to qualified Texans in need.
A firm believer in the benefits of medical marijuana, Dr. Najafi remains optimistic that society will continue to make progress on medical cannabis issues, allowing patients who receive relief from medical cannabis to do so without stigma, judgment, and legal jeopardy. Here at Zen Cannabis Clinic, we hope that the lawmakers of Texas further support patients’ rights that allow medical research to be performed in a free and unrestricted way. Only in this way can our knowledge of both the benefits and the harms of cannabis continue to progress.
You can take our self-assessment quiz, here. If you are interested, we will gladly review your application; all you need to do is make an appointment. If you have an undiagnosed qualified condition, such as PTSD, we can assess your condition with a simple questionnaire. You can review a list of qualified conditions on our website. If we cannot find a qualifying condition, we will refund your money!
In the medical field, these terms are used interchangeably.
No, Texas does not issue medical marijuana cards. Instead, your information will be entered into the Texas Compassionate Use Registry and can be reviewed by qualified dispensary personnel. Law enforcement staff can also access this registry as needed. If necessary, our office can provide an official letter upon request that verifies your eligibility to use medical cannabis under Texas law.
No, the products sold in CBD shops are derived from hemp and do not contain THC, even though sometimes they are advertised that way. Due to the extraction process, there might be a minimal amount of THC (<0.3%) in these products. However, they will not have any medical benefits. Medical marijuana contains much higher levels of THC. The amount of THC and CBD can be exactly measured. Medical marijuana must uphold higher standards and is more reliable than over-the-counter products. You can learn about the effects of THC and CBD on your body here.
THC and CBD are natural ingredients found in the cannabis plant. These two ingredients have been shown to help treat symptoms associated with certain medical conditions.
THC is found in the marijuana plant and is responsible for psychoactive effects, i.e., a “high feeling”. THC also provides many positive medical benefits, such as decreasing nausea/vomiting and increasing appetite. CBD, when combined with THC, can mediate some of the unwanted side effects of cannabis, such as feeling “high” or anxiety.
Zen Cannabis Clinic will work with you to find the optimal ratio of THC/CBD to alleviate your symptoms.
Marijuana is still considered a Class I scheduled substance, which means that any sale or possession of marijuana is prohibited under federal law. Some states, like Texas, have legalized the use of medicinal marijuana and allow patients with certain medical conditions to obtain and use medical marijuana without being prosecuted locally. Medical cannabis is safer than marijuana obtained for reactional use, as it does not have any impurities (such as fentanyl products or other illicit substances that can cause unintentional overdose).
Smoking marijuana, due to its harmful effects on the lungs, has not been approved as a means to consume medical cannabis in Texas. The products are in forms of gummies, lozenges, tinctures, or other formulations to be taken orally. A tincture is a liquid formulation that you can put under your tongue for faster absorption. The oral formulations take about an hour to start taking effect.
After receiving your medical recommendation by Zen Cannabis Clinic, your name will be entered into the Compassionate Use Registry. Then, you can contact your preferred dispensary to obtain your medical cannabis. Some dispensaries provide home delivery options. You can find approved dispensaries here. https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/compassionate-use-program/faq/dispensing-organizations
Unfortunately, insurance companies do not cover the cost of medical marijuana. Zen Cannabis Clinic is unable to process any insurance claims currently, but we can process debit or credit cards.
Patients choose marijuana for its therapeutic effects. Cannabinoid (an active ingredient in the marijuana plant) relies on your body’s innate ability (endocannabinoid system) to help your body heal. You can learn more about effects of cannabis on your body here.

How to Choose the Right Medical Marijuana Doctor?
Evaluating Doctor Credentials
When you're choosing a cannabis doctor, it's important to check their credentials. Make sure the medical marijuana doctor is licensed and certified in your state. Look for physicians who have specific training or certifications in medical cannabis treatments. This means they know how to recommend the best course of action for your health conditions.
- Verify the physician's medical license
- Look for certifications related to cannabis medicine
- Consider additional qualifications and specialized training
Experience with Medical Cannabis
Experience matters when it comes to picking the right specialist. Doctors with a history in medical cannabis usually understand various treatments and how they relate to different health conditions. An experienced medical marijuana doctor can provide valuable insights into treatment options suited for you.
- Seek specialists with several years of experience
- Inquire about the doctor's familiarity with treating your condition
- Ask about the physician's approach to creating personalized treatment plans
Patient Reviews and Testimonials
Reading patient reviews and testimonials can help you learn about the doctor's reliability and care standards. Look for consistent feedback that highlights the positives, but also watch out for any red flags indicating poor performance or unhappy clients.
- Check online platforms for patient reviews
- Consider both positive and negative testimonials
- Look for recurring themes in customer feedback to gauge reliability

What Are the Options for Obtaining Medical Cannabis?
In-Person Consultations
If you're in Texas, there are options available for getting medical cannabis. You can visit a marijuana doctor or a medical cannabis physician in cities like Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. These doctors will meet with you to see if you qualify for a medical cannabis prescription. After that, you can go to dispensaries approved by Texas medical cannabis laws to buy your products.
Telemedicine Opportunities
Telemedicine is a convenient choice for those who prefer remote medical care. You can talk to a cannabis doctor from home through cannabis telemedicine services. During the consultation, the marijuana healthcare provider will check your condition. If it's appropriate, they will give you a prescription for medical cannabis. This option is great for those who can't travel easily or live far from medical offices.
Dispensary Partnerships
Working with local dispensaries, services like a cannabis recommendation service help you choose the right medical marijuana products. These partnerships make sure patients get quality products that follow cannabis laws in Texas. Whether you need help with dosage or choosing product types, dispensaries linked with medical cannabis treatment providers offer support to improve your treatment plan.
For more detailed information on these options, visit Zen Cannabis Clinic.
How Does Medical Marijuana Impact Daily Activities?
Work and Employment Considerations
For employees using medical marijuana, understanding legal protections at work is important. In Texas, you need to know how your employer views cannabis use. Even though medical marijuana is legal, it doesn't always protect your job. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) might help with some workplace accommodations, but policies can differ. Talk to human resources about your job's rules and any needed support for disabilities. Openly communicating with your employer helps ensure everyone is on the same page.
Driving and Operating Machinery
When using cannabis, it's important to prioritize safe driving. Texas law warns against DUI, which can happen if you drive or operate machinery while impaired. Even if you have medical marijuana approval, driving under its influence is both illegal and dangerous. Plan your transportation wisely and avoid getting behind the wheel if you're not fully alert. Knowing the legal risks and keeping roads safe is vital for everyone.
Lifestyle Adjustments
Adding cannabis to your daily routine means making some lifestyle changes. Many patients feel cannabis helps their mental and physical health, improving wellness and quality of life. To integrate it properly, adjust your habits and seek support if needed. Use resources to manage these changes well. Focus on personal care and being thoughtful to blend cannabis use into your life smoothly.
What Should Patients Know About Cannabis Strains and Products?
Understanding Different Strains
When looking into cannabis, it's key for patients to know about the different strains: Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid. Each type can affect the mind and body in unique ways and is suited for various medical conditions.
- Indica strains are known for their calming effects. They may help patients who need to relax or reduce physical pain.
- Sativa strains usually provide an uplifting experience, which can be good for those needing increased focus or energy.
- Hybrid strains have a mix of Indica and Sativa qualities, offering a balanced effect.
Choosing the right strain depends on your own needs and how each type makes you feel.
Product Selection Guidance
Picking the right cannabis product means understanding the choices and considering what works best for you:
- Oils and Tinctures: Good for precise dosing and easy to use. You can add them to food or take them directly.
- Edibles: These are food items with cannabis inside. They offer a private way to consume but need careful dosing.
- Flowers: Used for smoking or vaporizing, which lets them work fast.
When choosing, think about the effects you want, how convenient it is, and what fits your lifestyle.
Safety and Dosage
Being safe with cannabis is very important. Knowing the correct dosage helps ensure positive outcomes and reduces risks.
- Begin with a low dose, especially if you're new to cannabis.
- Increase the amount slowly based on your body's response.
- Watch out for safety issues like drug interactions and health conditions.
Talk to healthcare professionals to adjust cannabis use to fit personal needs safely.
